Four years ago, at the end of 2016, we were welcomed in Toronto as a Syrian refugee family by the Ripple Refugee Project. Pegi and Phil were active members of this Toronto refugee private sponsorship group. In less than a week, Pegi invited us for dinner at her place. Our first impression of Toronto was an extremely cold city. But this feeling of cold switched to warmth from the first time we met Pegi and felt her warm heart.
This wouldn't be our last dinner as she would invite us every year to her family's Christmas dinner and she adored the Syrian dishes we prepared. When Pegi knew I was looking for a job, she tried her best to connect me with her network. It ended up with me working part time with the Foundation House. Her help was crucial at the time and helped me stand on my feet. And then came the time me and my wife took off with our careers, she celebrated our success and showed admiration and pride.
Every time we would meet with Pegi she would be supportive and positive. Her eyes and smile would do the magic of lifting up our spirit even before she speaks. We wouldn't exaggerate when saying that Pegi provided us with family support when we missed family. We will never forget her and she will always be in our hearts.
