Joshua Laughren, colleague, ED, Oceana Canada

I was so saddened to hear of Pegi’s passing. I had the privilege of meeting and working with her at WWF, where she set the example for environmental advocacy. She exuded not just passion and effectiveness, but kindness and respect for everyone around her. Her energy and love for her work was clear, both at WWF and then at CEGN, and I was fortunate to remain her colleague through the years as she brought together and inspired so many folks from the environmental community to build a stronger coalition of advocates from across the country. Canada's biodiversity, and therefore all of us, are better because of Pegi.

I also had the good fortune to move into her neighbourhood with my family about 7 years ago, and we would often see Pegi on our walks. When we did (and we looked out for her in the hopes of bumping into her!), she would always stop to chat, and after, we’d always be happier for having spent time with her. Her warmth, her energy and her smile were contagious. She would share honest and personal stories about herself, but always showed more interest in our family and took great pleasure and delight in the exploits of our son – her generosity was endless. Being close to Pegi was one of our very favourite aspects about living in the neighbourhood. We'll miss her dearly.
