Brian Freeman, board member, Project Canoe
Two of the accomplishments of hers that I remember are, (1) she was way ahead of her time on the importance of diversity for the organization and the need for board training on this front, and made anti-oppression training a key part of our board regime (which has continued to-date), and (2) she was very conscious of succession planning and the fact that we are all stewards of the organization, so in this light she created the Vice-Chair position which has served us really well in ensuring that we are always thinking about – and prepared for – changes on that front. There was a genuineness to her that is unparalleled. Her heart was in PC in a way that cannot be matched by any of us, leading her to take her job seriously to ensure the survival of the organization (but not too seriously as she also had a phenomenal sense of humour).
